Technology Integration.
The Mission?
Imagine a class where your lecture is done on the smart board, posted on the website, linked to real world connection videos, and then backed up with an online practice test. And the reality of it is, it’s not that hard to do… just ask your students.
Today’s students want to learn… But they want to receive the information on their latest technology toys. Using the Internet gives education a chance to connect with the student in a way that they “EXPECT” to receive information. Web-based education… is tomorrow’s textbook.
This is not social media, its education. Why Change Now?
After seven years of teaching the "old-fashioned" way, I realized it wasn't the student's who needed to change, but the teacher's applied teaching methods. At Central Montco Technical High School, we have spent the last two years developing an internet-based aspect to our curriculum to go along with our successful in-class program.
After talking to other teachers and making presentations at teacher conferences, we learned that we are not alone in our quest to reach todays student's. I want to give teachers the knowledge and tools to connect with their students using more modern methods that todays students are accustomed to. Think about it, how do student's send and receive information in today's world?
Things to Consider About Todays Students
On the whole, teens spend some 31 hours per week online or if you divide that evenly between the days of the week, that adds up to 4.4 hours per day online.
96% of students have a computer in their house 68% of students have their own computer Seventy-five (75) percent of 12 to 17 year olds own cell phones; this number is up from forty-five (45) percent in 2004. Text messaging has increased dramatically in recent years. In fact, text messaging has become the preferred method of communication for American teenagers; with one in three teens sending more than 100 texts a day.
